M. KRISHNA LAW COLLEGE, HASSAN

M. KRISHNA LAW COLLEGE, HASSAN was established by Malnad Technical Education Society (MTES) in the year 1974 with aspirations to provide legal education and to meet the legal requirements of the community. This college is affiliated to Karnataka State Law University, Hubballi and recognized by University Grants Commission as well as Bar Council of India and accredited with “B+” grade by NAAC, Bangalore. The college is engaged in the activity of imparting legal education for over 46 years. Justice E.S. Venkataramaiah, the then judge of High Court of Karnataka, inaugurated the college in the year 1974-75. Located midway, (13◦N and 76-5◦E, altitude 943 mtrs) between Bangalore (180 Kms) and Mangalore (170Kms) on NH -75 Hassan a District Head Quarters, having a steady temperate climate throughout the year, enjoys an annual rainfall of about 900mm. World famous temples of Beluru, Halebedu and Sravanabelagola and the Master Control Facility for INSAT Satellites are located in Hassan District. The College is on built on 1.32 acres campus and has all the facilities expected in a modern Law college.

 

Late Sri, Harnahalli Ramaswamy, former Chairman MTES ® Hassan, former Law Minister, Government of Karnataka and founder Principal of the Institution along with the members of MTES ® felt the need of a law Institution in Hassan city to protect and serve the legal interest of the people in the Malnad area coming from Hassan, Chikamagalur and Kodagu Districts and decided to establish the Law College in the City with various objectives, major one being, to promote and encourage legal education.

The College has been named after the philanthropist Late Sri. M. Krishna, in recognition of his Donation to the establishment of the third venture of MTES ® Hassan.

The institution was made its humble beginning towards achieving its goals in the academic year 1974-75 by obtaining affiliation from oldest and prestigious University, University of Mysore, during the Vice –Chancellorship of Dr. D.E Javaregowda with first batch intake of 93 students. Gradually the college rose from strength to strength and now it is recognized as one of the best colleges in the State of Karnataka. The College offers 3 years LL.B Course. The College has made a long lasting invaluable contribution to the intellectual and cultural progress of the society. Thousands of graduates trained, equipped and cultured have come out of its portals. These graduates are making their contribution in the field of law there by creating prosperous peaceful and progressive environment in all walks of life. It is noteworthy to mention here that the college has produced great legal luminaries and scholars; some of the teachers of the college are the Alumni and are proud to associate themselves with different activities of the college. Sri Ashok Haranahalli, Chairman of MTES® and former Advocate General of Karnataka, is an alumni of this Institution.

Justice M. Rama Jois, former Chief Justice of High Court of Punjab and Haryana, Retired Justices, Sri. H. Rangavittalachar, Dr K Bhaktavatsala, Sri.Anand of High Court of Karnataka, Dr. Jayagovind, former Vice Chancellor of NLSIU, Dr.V Nagaraj. NLSIU, Dr C.K.N Raja, Dr. P Ishwar Bhat, Dr. H.N Krishna, Former Information Commissioner are the few to mention the great personalities who visited our college, and delivered scholarly lectures in the earlier past.

The Judges from the local courts and District court, Hassan, were/are kind enough to visit our college, addressed the students on legal aspects regularly.

In the teaching & learning process the college is equipped with modern facilities such as Computers, Internet, LCD, Smart Boards, Visualizes etc.

We visualize the College -Providing instruction, guidance, encouragement and support for
wholesome education in law, to equip the students to become competent legal professionals who shall use tools, precept and institutions of law to uphold the
values enshrined in the Preamble of the Constitution of India.
The Chairman, members, officers and faculty of M. Krishna Law College
further affirm;

mind special needs of competent legal professionals in semi-urban and
rural areas;
• That we provide instruction in such a way as to broaden the outlook of
and to develop the core skills required in a competent professionals;
